VPN: Download the Android AnyConnect ICS+ Client

Download the VPN Client

  1. Search to locate AnyConnect ICS+ from the Google Play Store.
     
  2. Open the installed application.
  3. Select Add New VPN Connection.
  4. Staff, faculty, students, or sponsored affiliates should enter umvpn.umnet.umich.edu as the Server Address in the Connection Editor.
  5. Alumni or Retirees should enter umvpn3.umnet.umich.edu as the Server Address in the Connection Editor.

Connect Using the VPN

Important: You must have a network connection to connect via the VPN.

  1. Open the AnyConnect ICS+ application.
  2. Select the umvpn.umnet.edu connection you just created.
  3. Select either the Tunnel-Everything or Tunnel-UM-Only group.
  4. When prompted, authenticate using your university uniqname and UMICH password.

Using the Built-In Android VPN

  1. Locate your device VPN settings within the larger settings menu. They may be under More or Wireless & Networks menus depending upon your device and Android OS version.
  2. Select the +(Plus Sign) to add a new VPN profile.
  3. Enter a Name for the VPN profile (e.g., U-M VPN).
  4. Select IPSEC Xauth PSK as the Type.
  5. Staff, faculty, students, or sponsored affiliates should enter umvpn1.umnet.umich.edu or umvpn2.umnet.umich.edu in the Server Address field.
  6. Alumni or Retirees should enter umvpn3.umnet.umich.edu in the Server Address field.
  7. Enter:
    • UM-on-campus-wireless in the IPSec Identifier field if you want all traffic to go over the tunnel
    • UM-off-campus-access in the IPSec Identifier field if you want U-M traffic to go over the tunnel
    • UMVPN-Alumni-Retiree in the IPSec Identifier field if you are connecting to the Alumni-Retiree server
    • Enter WseaTBed! in the IPSEc Pre-Shared Key field, this value is case-sensitive and requires the exclamation point.

Connect Using the Built-In VPN

  1. Open the VPN Profile.
  2. When prompted, authenticate using your university uniqname and UMICH password.
